Charlene's current work portrays figures and faces of various backgrounds immersed in organic natural elements such as plants and animals. She uses vibrant expressive brushstrokes to bring the paintings to life mainly in oils, watercolors, and gouache. She has recently started exploring miniature scenery paintings of her travels as well with gouache. Her work expresses her observations of current matters and experiences living in a 21st century media driven society and its relationship to nature.

Working in Poland in 2016 on the first ever, fully- painted, Oscar-nominated feature film, Loving Vincent, was the artist’s first time tapping into traditional animation and called for an unforgettable experience she would never forget. Being part of the creation of the film for six months was a motivation to keep pursuing her passion as an independent artist. She painted more than 250 frames for the film.

Currently, Charlene works as a freelance, independent artist on several projects, such as murals, private commissions, and book illustrations with clients. Five children's books she has illustrated and a literary novel, have been published in 2018 and 2019; three winning Purple Dragon awards first and second places within their categories. As an independent artist, Charlene works with clientele worldwide, from the US, UK, to Australia and other places, shipping out commissioned paintings as big as 12x8 feet. She has painted murals at San Diego State University, Barrio Logan, La Jolla Shores, Horton Plaza, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Lake Forest.

Charlene also works as the Creative Artist of Hugo Morton Inc, and travels six months out of the year to Shenzhen- Hong Kong, and various locations in Europe to work on an array of projects. She creates concept designs for film, storyboards, jewelry display illustrations, huge murals, artistic car designs for luxury car shows and all kinds of creative works for the company internationally.

Her personal artwork is created in her San Diego studio, STUDIO 15, at Art on 30th. Her paintings and drawings are exhibited in her studio, at Sparks Gallery locally, and in various other locations. Charlene enjoys the variety of work she is involved in.

In regards to how I got involved with Royal Talens, that kind of happened while I was working on the film, Loving Vincent for six months in Poland in 2016. During that time frame, I had really gotten to know van Gogh Oil Paints and fell in love with their texture and viscosity as well as the ease of mixing colors that were so close to van Gogh’s original colors. I painted more than 250 frames for the feature film in van Gogh oil paints.

I returned to the US, and the Loving Vincent promotional touring began throughout soCal and other states, such as Las Vegas and Oregon. I had the pleasure to meet the Royal Talens team and learn even more about the company and its educational program materials. From there on, I began teaching occasional classes and workshops with van Gogh Oils and in collaboration with the Royal Talens team. Just recently I was invited to join the Ambassador team and I am super excited to keep learning and sharing with the community about the high qualty art materials Royal Talens offers.

I first met Charlene while working together at the MacPherson’s Dealer Workshop. Charlene was our featured artist sharing her experiences of working on the 2017 film Loving Vincent. If you haven’t seen the movie, you should, as it’s the first fully animated film done completely in Van Gogh oil paint. Charlene was one of the over a hundred artists who lent their talents to creating the over 65,000 frames of hand painted works of art.

Charlene has represented Royal Talens on several occasions, visiting our retail partners for special events and demonstrations, and teaching workshops where she has been an inspirational instructor.

For our Ambassador program, Royal Talens seeks out those individuals who are not only talented artists achieving recognition in their field, but those who have a sincere commitment to art education, who are continually seeking experience and expertise, and share freely of that knowledge with others.

Charlene is one of those special people, and we are very excited that she has accepted our offer to become a Royal Talens Ambassador.
