Decorating Easter Eggs with Ecoline and Talens Art Creation

Hold on a minute! If you’re about to go buy a premade egg decoration kit from the grocery store- don’t! Did you know you can achieve beautifully colored eggs by using art supplies you already have available to you in your own home? Our Art Education director Jeff Olson has put together 4 different ways for you to color your eggs using Ecoline liquid watercolor and Talens Art Creation acrylic paint! Masking

Materials

  • Ecoline Liquid Watercolor Jars Primary Set (Item No. 11259900)

  • Boiled Eggs

  • White Distilled Vinegar

  • Water

  • Electrical Tape

  • Mineral Oil (optional)

Techniques

  1. Mix ½ teaspoon of Ecoline Liquid Watercolor with ½ teaspoon of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water ( for more intense color, use 1 teaspoon of Ecoline)

  2. Wrap the eggs with electrical tape in any pattern desired

  3. Dip egg into color mixture and let soak for 1 hour

  4. Remove egg and pat dry and let rest for 10 minutes

  5. Remove tape

  6. Apply second layer of electrical tape in any pattern desired

  7. Dip egg in different color and let soak for 1 hour

  8. Remove egg and pat dry and let rest for 10 minutes

  9. Remove tape

  10. (Rub egg in mineral oil for gloss effect if desired)

Oil resist

Materials

  • Ecoline Liquid Watercolor Jars Primary Set (Item No. 11259900)

  • Boiled Eggs

  • Vegetable Oil

  • Water

Techniques

  1. Mix ½ teaspoon of Ecoline Liquid Watercolor with ½ teaspoon of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water ( for more intense color, use 1 teaspoon of Ecoline)

  4. In second cup, mix ½ teaspoon of Ecoline Liquid Watercolor with ½ teaspoon of vegetable oil and 1 cup of water (for more intense color, use 1 teaspoon of Ecoline)

  5. Dip egg into oil/color mixture and stir/rotate egg as until desired effect is achieved

  6. Remove egg and let rest for 1 hour

  7. Wipe excess oil from egg

Watercolor Drip

Materials

  • Ecoline Liquid Watercolor Jars Primary Set (Item No. 11259900)

  • Boiled Eggs

  • Thumb Tacks

  • Cardboard

  • Mineral Oil (Optional)

Techniques

  1. Using 3 thumb tacks make tripod on cardboard (cardboard piece apx 6x6 inches)

  2. Set egg in desired position on thumb tack tripod

  3. Select any color of Ecoline Liquid Watercolors, and using pipette, slowly drip color over top of egg

  4. Repeat with as many colors as many times as desired

  5. Let dry for 1 hour

  6. (Rub egg in mineral oil for gloss effect if desired)

acrylic speckled eggs

Materials

  • Talens Art Creation Acrylic 5x75ml Set (Item No. 3582805M)

  • Boiled Eggs

  • Long Grain Rice (recommended, but any rice will do)

  • Macaroni Pasta (recommended, but anything similar will do)

Techniques

  1. Fill bowl with ½ cup of your choice of rice or pasta shells or both

  2. Add apx 1 tablespoon of Talens Art Creation acrylic paint directly into rice or pasta mix

  3. Stir until paint is fully distributed on all rice or pasta

  4. Set egg in mixture, and roll egg until desired effect is achieved

  5. Remove rice or pasta stuck to egg

  6. Set egg aside to rest for 1 hour

  7. (Rub egg in mineral oil for gloss effect if desired)
